It’s been called the ultimate wheeling Mecca for years and for good reason. Moab, Utah, is surrounded by some of the most scenic rock crawling trails in the nation. Many Moab trails are actually quite tame but can be difficult to navigate if you are unfamiliar with the area. The traction there is unbelievable, which is one of the reasons why you’ll find yourself crawling up near vertical cliffs with surprising ease. From completely stock to wildly modified, you will find a trail in Moab to get your heart racing.

There’s no trail more famous in the U.S. than the Rubicon Trail. It’s a 22-mile-long trek through a continuous maze of rock obstacles. It’s a scenic and challenging journey that you’ll likely want to pace out over at least two, if not three, days. This is not only a great wheeling experience, but for those who love camping in the great outdoors, it’s fantastic for that. If you are up for a serious road trip, then we highly recommend you head north. Way north in fact to visit the Knik River Public Use Area. It’s approximately 50 miles outside of Anchorage, Alaska, and home to some of the most amazing scenery on the planet. The pay off in the 25,000 acers of designated off-road land is the five-mile-wide face of the Knik Glacier. Summertime will make this journey easier but be prepared for plenty of water crossings along the way.

Colorado is home to some of the best trails in America. None are as famous, however as Black Bear Pass. It’s just under 9 miles in length, but the shelf-road leading into Telluride is notoriously treacherous. Take your time and enjoy the sites. You don’t need an extreme 4x4 to do this trail, but you need to have off-road experience. The peak will take you to 12,840 feet, so be prepared for some serous elevation. The views here are incredible.

If you’re a fan of classic Western movies, then you’ve likely seen the Alabama Hills and didn’t realize it. No. They are not located in Alabama, but near Lone Pine, California. It’s an incredibly popular area that has become one of the biggest overland destinations in America. Here, you can check out Mount Whitney and amazing mountain trails that snake through the high desert. This is an extremely remote area. A Rough Country roof-top tent will be a nice upgrade for when you land at those rough and remote camping areas. You’ll feel as though you have traveled back in time once you are there, and the experience is one you will not forget.
