What is a Lift Kit?

Before we get into the details of why you might want to add a lift kit to your vehicle, let's start with the basics: what is one, exactly? A lift kit is simply after-market parts and equipment that, once installed, lifts your vehicle higher off the ground. They're most often used on trucks, jeeps, SUVs, ATVs, and UTVs to increase clearance for larger tires. There are different ways to achieve a lifted look, including suspension modifications and body lifts. With a body lift, you are doing exactly what the name suggests, lifting the truck's body off the frame by installing spacers. In most cases, a suspension lift is the preferred lifting method, offering better ground clearance, off-road performance, and no unsightly gap between the body and frame. With a suspension lift, you will change your suspension components (shocks, springs, control arms, etc.), raising every part of your vehicle.

Lifiting for Looks

It's no secret that modifications are a huge part of the truck enthusiast culture. From lift kits to off-road tires, you can always do something more to make your truck look better. If you've ever walked past a lifted pickup truck or an SUV with bigger than stock tires, you probably gave it a second, third, maybe even a fourth glance. There's something uniquely satisfying about a vehicle that stands out from the crowd. Personalizing your ride makes owning a vehicle more enjoyable, and more importantly, it distinguishes your vehicle from everyone else on the road. You can't beat the unique look that a lift kit will give your ride. By lifting your truck, you can improve its appearance and performance by increasing its clearance for larger tires and giving it a more aggressive stance.

Lifting is a Lifestyle

Lift kits aren't just for looks. Research has shown that recreational off-roading vehicles have seen tremendous growth in the last two years and show no sign of letting up anytime soon. After all, what's the point of having a truck if you're not going to use it for its intended purpose? Whether you are new to the Overlanding/ off-roading lifestyle or a seasoned expert, you likely have a base vehicle that you have made your own. To explore scenic and remote areas efficiently, having an upgraded suspension or lift kit and a good set of all-terrain tires are essential. The extra clearance from a lift will get you over all the high points (quite literally), allowing passage of the toughest trails. Whether you want to tackle the Rubicon Trail or explore your local backcountry, you will find that a lift kit improves your vehicle's overall off-road capabilities.

Lifting your vehicle is about more than just getting big wheels and tires. By changing a few fundamental things, you can transform your vehicle from the ground up into something that looks and drives like it should have been that way in the first place. With the help of a lift kit, your truck or SUV can go places it never could before. It can take on more extreme terrain, conquer more challenging obstacles, and give you access to some of the most remote wilderness areas in the country. So, why lift? The answer to that question is simple: because you can.

I bought a jeep that is already lifted, I would like to know how to measure the height of my present lift, I am guessing its about 6 inches but am not sure. I am pretty sure it's a suspension lift.
